Hello and welcome, and thanks for visiting my shop! I'm Heidi and I'm addicted to sewing... especially hand-sewing! I love the idea of rescuing abandoned, tattered, and unloved quilts and textiles, and remaking them into something fun and useful.

*** This is the first quilt coat I made in 2023 (when I fell in love with the process)
I'm pretty sure I learned how to sew while still in the womb, since I have no conscious memory of learning how to do it. My great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, and older sister all sewed and even made some quilts. So, I came by this obsession honestly!

*** First documented evidence of my sewing prowess - made for my father as a Christmas gift when I was about 6 years old
In 2024, I worked on perfecting my coat patterns. After making at least 15 of them, I finally settled on a few designs I'm happy with. This was a LONG process, since I would make a muslin prototype of every pattern I drafted. Then, if it seemed to be okay, I'd make the actual coat, streamlining the construction process where possible.
(The tailored sweater patterns of 2025 were MUCH easier!)

*** Evidence of some coat pattern attempts!
I'm not in this to "mass produce product" - rather, I'm just happily swimming in my passion of sewing and creating. It sometimes takes a month to make one item.
I love that my brain seems to be on auto-pilot when I'm deeply immersed in a sewing project, effortlessly mixing both intuition and analytical thinking. It never ceases to amaze me when I wake up with a fresh way to solve a problem, or when an idea pops into my head when I spot unlikely fabrics haphazardly lying next to each other on my sewing table. I find this magical process to be rewarding and surprising.
Each project is hand made by me, in my smoke-and-pet-free studio in Western Pennsylvania. (Although, you might also see me doing some hand sewing in local Pittsburgh coffee shops - one of my favorite pasttimes.)

*** This is the first and last time my studio ever looked this tidy!
The business name of "just one" (estab. February 2025) came to me when I realized that I would only ever make ONE of any product. You won't see anyone else with the same thing as you, because the materials I find are unique.
If I can get more than one coat out of a quilt, they will be in different sizes and styles, and I will note that in the product description. Here is an example:
*** Left side... Small, Shawl Collar with buttons
*** Right side... Medium, Round Collar
To make coats, I intentionally upcycle, recycle, and repurpose fabrics, and I machine wash all fabrics at least once before using them. To make sweaters, I use yarn left over from others' projects, and occasionally purchase a skein to complete a color palatte.

*** My leftover scraps are recycled at the University of Pittsburgh's sustainability program.
Thank you in advance for not judging my photography skills... I'd just rather be sewing for now. 😊
(My plan is to photograph everything on a model.)
But, I promise you a beautifully hand-crafted product, made with love, patience, and care!
